Dr. Erin Hurme, DAOM, Medical Director Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Nationally Board Certified in Oriental Medicine
Dr. Hurme is a highly esteemed Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, specializing in sports medicine, oncology, microneedling, and internal Chinese herbal medicine. With over twenty years of experience in private practice, she currently serves as the Medical Director at Amityville Acupuncture & Wellness.
Dr. Hurme's extensive education includes training at Cheng Du University in China, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), Pacific College of Health Sciences, and the New York College of Health. She completed rounds on the oncology, orthopedic, and pediatric floors in Chengdu, gaining invaluable hands-on experience. Her work at Scripps Hospice and Palliative Care in San Diego focused on helping patients transition peacefully, while her tenure at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego involved treating children with severe, medication-resistant pain. At MSKCC, she provided care for both inpatients and outpatients, further enhancing her expertise in oncology.
In the field of sports medicine, Dr. Hurme has an impressive track record. She served as the acupuncturist for the NFL's Tennessee Titans, collaborating closely with coaches to tailor treatments for each player. Her experience also includes working with the New York Jets, Nashville Predators, Cirque du Soleil, and the U.S. Open. She has treated numerous high-profile celebrities, musicians, and bands in their homes, at her practice, and at renowned venues such as Northwell at Jones Beach Theater.
Dr. Hurme runs a comprehensive Chinese herbal pharmacy, creating custom formulas for internal disorders. Recognizing the importance of prioritizing positive aging, she obtained certification in microneedling to offer a natural, long-term solution for her patients, family, and herself.
Dr. Hurme's dedication to education is evident from her decade-long tenure as an acupuncture and massage professor and clinical supervisor. She has also served as the Advocacy Chair for the Acupuncture Society of New York Board of Directors, working to expand insurance coverage for New Yorkers. Her public education efforts include hosting a radio show, "Living Wholistically," and speaking engagements at hospitals, colleges, large corporations nationwide and internationally, and the Nassau County Police Academy.
As a community leader, Dr. Hurme has directed multiple races, donating tens of thousands of dollars, and has offered free services to oncology patients for over 20 years. Since 2018, she has been the only medical practice charter for Mondays Cancer Center. An accomplished athlete, Dr. Hurme has completed IRONMAN Maryland, is an ultramarathon swimmer, and an endurance triathlete. She owns a private open water long-distance swim club and an Ironman tri-club, where she hosts motivational meetups to encourage others to swim, bike, run, and walk, promoting the idea that movement is medicine.
Combining her passion for helping others with her expertise in Chinese medicine, exercise, and love of the outdoors, Dr. Hurme is a leader in her field. She is also a devoted wife and mother of two boys, balancing her professional and personal life with remarkable dedication and passion.
