Dr. Erin Hurme, DAOM, Medical Director
Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
Nationally Board Certified in Oriental Medicine
Four percent of acupuncturists and Chinese herbologists in the United States have earned a doctorate in Oriental medicine. As a leader in her field and in practice for over 15 years Dr. Hurme received her Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the renowned Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, California. Dr. Hurme then opened Amityville Wellness, an Integrative Health Center in her home town. Having studied with some of the most respected faculty in the country, she also received clinical training at the prestigious Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. For many years Dr. Hurme focused on treating professional athletes such as the NFL Tennessee Titans, NY Jets and Nashville Predators. She also worked with many other professional athletes such as Dancing with the Stars and Cirque de Sole. She was a professor of acupuncture at the New York College of Health Professions in Syosset, New York for over a decade and is a guest speaker at colleges and large and small companies around the world. She specializes in neck and low back pain. Oncology, parkinsons, muptiple sclerosis, lupus and hormone imbalances are some of the other ailments she also loves to work with.
Dr. Hurme Lives Life In Balance through Traditional Chinese Medicine every day. She found her passion for it when she was a teenager. Traditional Chinese Medicine helped her through many difficulties she had in her life and continues to help her every day. Dr. Hurme was convinced acupuncture, Chinese herbs and massage worked after she was diagnosis with fibrocystic breasts and had multiple surgeries to remove them year after year when the only answer she could get from her doctor when she asked why, was, "your body just creates fibroids". After finding Traditional Chinese Medicine and getting weekly treatments, the fibroids began to disappear! Her acupuncturist also found the root cause of the fibroids and advised Dr. Hurme on lifestyle changes as well. This created a passion in her to work with oncology patients. From this, she began studing at Memorial Sloan Kettering on and off for the past 20 years. She has trained in their integrative medicine department and worked at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center hospital performing acupuncture, while she completed her doctorate. Another big shift Dr. Hurme had using acupuncture, Chinese herbs and massage was when she was a resident in college studying acupuncture and found a licensed acupuncturist that said he could help take her low back, knee, foot and hip pain away, allowing her to run again. From the time Dr. Hurme was in kindergarten she had a passion for running. When she was in high school she was top 7 Freshman on a team of over 100 girls and training for nationals but the pain prevented her from continuing her running career. After getting treated for this long standing life long pain with acupuncture, the pain went away. Dr. Hurme is now an endurance triathlete and completed her first Ironman in Maryland in September 2019. She has run many marathons, hundreds of 1/2 marathons as well as many long distance open water swims. She attributes her success to her family, friends, patients, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Living Life In Balance. Dr. Hurme has had endless hurdles eased by using Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Dr.Hurme continues her studies Traditional Chinese Medicine studies daily. In 2023 she expanded her practice and opened a cosmetology department after years of studying facial rejuvination. Dr. Hurme is certified in microneedling, nanoneedling, cosmetic acupuncture and red light therapy. During her micro and nano -needling sessions she uses custom organic vegan Chinese herbal serums that get infused deep into the skin leaving her patients glowing for months and years later. Dr. Hurme knows that when you look good you feel good and cosmetic acupuncture is a safe and effective way to do this which is why she dove straight in when she learned about it.
At Amityville Wellness Dr. Hurme practices acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine with a full granular herbal pharmacy on site and provides integrative medicine to all of patients. She is committed to treating her patients with the utmost care and concern. It is Dr. Hurme's goal to let the world know that Traditional Chinese Medicine is available to them and is an amazing option to have in your toolbox for treating nearly any issue you encounter in your life. At Amityville Wellness, the aim is to treat the root imbalance, or causative factor, not simply the symptom.
