TCM uses a system of sign and symptom pattern recognition and treatment. These signs and symptoms are determined through a consistent series of questioning, examination of the tongue, and palpation of the pulse. Patients may present with a simple pattern or, more commonly, with multiple patterns. The combinations of patterns explain how, in practice, TCM can treat such varied complaints. As a TCM practitioner, the challenge is to figure out the patterns and prioritize treatment. Once the pattern is identified the practitioner uses his or her tools: acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and dietary and lifestyle recommendations to bring the flow of Qi and other natural states in the body back to a balanced state resulting in amelioration or relief of symptoms. TCM does not claim to cure the disease, only to relieve the symptoms by bringing the body to a balanced state of health. If the balance is maintained, symptoms will not return. |
Acupuncture
The National Institutes of Health Consensus Statement on Acupuncture states: “…promising results have emerged, for example, showing efficacy of acupuncture in adult postoperative and chemotherapy nausea and vomiting and in postoperative dental pain. There are also situations ... in which acupuncture may be useful as an adjunct treatment or an acceptable alternative to be included in a comprehensive management program.” Massage
Amityville Acupuncture & Wellness offers massage by highly trained massage therapists who are knowledgeable in both Eastern and Western styles of massage. They work with the Acupuncturists in the office consulting on cases and develop highly effective treatment plans to benefit each individual needs. Herbology
Amityville Acupuncture & Wellness stocks a full Chinese Herbal pharmacy of over 300 granule herbs. Chinese herbal medicine is the most highly developed and most commonly used system of herbal medicine in the world. It can be used independently or together with acupuncture to treat a wide variety of health conditions. Herbs are given in standard combinations or formulas of approximately 4 – 15 herbs and are prescribed based on TCM pattern diagnosis. Microneedling
Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure for your skin. The acupuncturist uses very, fine, short needles to make tiny punctures in the top layer of your skin which stimulate your skin’s healing process, causing the skin to produce more collagen and elastin. These proteins keep your skin firm and smooth. Microneedling improves the texture and tone of your skin, reduces the appearances of scars and acne, brightens the complexion, and enhances product absorption. An apple stem-cell serum is included in the treatment which further increases the production of collagen and rejuvenates the face. Each treatment also includes a soothing aloe facemask application at the end each session. Nanoneedling
Nanoneedling uses microscopic, hair-like needles to penetrate the very top layer of the skin called the epidermis, by separating cells and allowing active ingredients to be delivered. Benefits of this treatment include reduced pigmentation, improved skin cell turnover, rejuvenation and an immediate improvement in skin's appearance with no recovery time. This treatment is ideal for areas of the face which cannot be reached with microneedling. A great treatment to be done in between microneedling appointments to increase your facial rejuvenation results! Cosmetic Acupuncture
Cosmetic acupuncture uses tiny acupuncture needles to target specific wrinkles or areas of interest. The microtraumas created by the needles initiate collagen production in the targeted areas, which in turn fill in the wrinkle. Regular acupuncture points are placed in specific areas of the face in conjunction with the cosmetic acupuncture needles to bolster their affect and to tonify the muscles in the face. |
